Welcome to the Puzzle, a sacred world where individual identity is not permitted. Many years ago, the people of the Puzzle lived as one until the arrival of their ancestors. These godly beings claimed to be saviors from another planet. The first ancestor to arrive was Algoos, whose coming marked the beginning of an era of human suffering. Algoos believed that all growth comes through lessons of pain.
After enduring years of suffering, many citizens began to yearn for a new god who could match the power of Algoos. Eventually, a new ancestor appeared named Naauao. As Naauao spoke, citizens started to follow their lead because they believed Algoos’ methods were harsh and immoral. Naauao, in contrast, advocated for unity and encouraged their followers to be caring, giving, and to participate in equal work. However, some people viewed Naauao as naive and wishful in their thinking. Consequently, many citizens once again prayed for the arrival of a new god.
Their prayers were answered, and a new ancestor named Wyshed emerged. Unlike the other ancestors, Wyshed was not interested in being worshiped by humans and withheld their teachings. Nonetheless, many citizens sought to gain knowledge from Wyshed, as they highly valued the god’s philosophies. Over time, Wyshed’s following grew significantly, leading to conflicts as citizens argued and fought over which ancestor should guide the human race. Tensions escalated, culminating in a civil war that lasted for 12 years, resulting in numerous casualties and suffering.
Eventually, the ancestors could no longer bear witness to the chaos and decided to intervene. They convened in the center of the world and, after two months of deliberation, reached an agreement. According to the agreement, all land would be divided between the ancestors and their respective followers. Each follower was compelled to choose a group and follow one of the ancestors: Algoos (representing pain), Naauao (representing unity), or Wyshed (representing wisdom).
To settle disputes and determine whose teachings would prevail, the groups would engage in an annual battle in an arena called the “Puzzle.” In these battles, each group would wager their lands. The outcome of the Puzzle would decide which ancestor’s teachings would hold sway. To reinforce the prohibition of individual identity, the ancestors agreed that the groups would only identify as followers of their respective ancestors.
